updates from wwdc 2010 - iphone 4 out!

As mentioned in my previous post, iPhone 4, was announced by Steve Jobs today in his key-note address at WWDC. Big Grin His speech started at 10 a.m. PST, in front of an audience who had been waiting for hours in the Moscone, anticipating huge announcements from Apple. It started with a telling tribute to iPad, which reached 2 million units sold, in less than 2 months, in 10 countries.

Jobs also mentioned some new apps coming up for iPhones, iPods and iPads. He highlighted 3 developers; Netflix, Zynga and Activision, which applications will hit the App Store soon. Imagine now having Farmville on your iPhones. Pig

At around 10:31 p.m. PST, half-an-hour after he began his speech, eventually iPhone 4 was introduced, to thunderous applause from the audience. Thinnest smartphone ever, front-facing camera, 3.5" display, 960 x 640 pixels hence better and clearer display, Micro-SIM tray, mute button, 5 MP camera+LED flash, HD video, iMovie for iPhone, glass on front and back for optical quality and scratch resistance, better battery life, a gyroscope, et cetera et cetera et cetera, you name it! Applause

The new OS for iPhone (and eventually iPod Touch 2nd Gen, and iPad) was also launched, renamed from iPhone OS4 to iOS 4. Its most significant feature is that it now supports multitasking. iBooks will also be coming to the iPhone with iOS 4. And due to the same nature of OS' inside all iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches, all devices will be able to snyc between themselves. Start reading your book on your iPad, pick up where you left off in your iPhone.

Steve ended his key-note speech with a video call (show-off! Tongue) to Jony Ive (Senior Vice President of Industrial Design at Apple Inc). It has a software called FaceTime to manage the video call, through Wi-Fi, and guess what, you can use both cameras, front or rear, to do the video call.

iPhone 4, which will be available in black and white, will be on sale in the U.S. on June 24th. By the end of September, it will be available in a total of 88 countries. The iOS 4 upgrade will be available on June 21st, and its free for iPod Touch users! YEAY! Applause

So that's it. Finally, probably the most anticipated device of 2010, has been announced. More photos are available here. Can't wait to see them on the shelves!
