Maternal Mortality in Sierra Leone: The Story of Mamma

The link above will bring you to share the pain and perils of having to deliver a baby in Sierra Leone, where 1,033 women die for every 100,000 live births, alone one of the highest death rates in the world. What was supposed to be the source of joy and a recognized milestone in womanhood, has become one of the dreaded causes of death, in which one woman per minute dies while giving birth or soon after, while 10 to 15 million women suffer complications or injuries. Mamma Sessay, only 18, died while delivering twins in May.
