Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian - We Salute You!

Rayzam 1Rayzam 2

Another Sabahan hogged the limelight and did Malaysia proud yesterday (2 days ago actually!). This time in the Korat 24th SEA Games. Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian, a Keningau lad, won the gold medal in the 110m Hurdles, breaking the SEA Games record in the process (13.91s, 0.01s faster than the previous record). Prior to the games, he never went below 14s and his previous best was 14.15s set in the National Championships in Kangar, Perlis this year. The previous record holder, Suphan Wongsriphuck of Thailand was 2nd, while Rayzam's team mate, Mohd Faiz Mohd, finished 3rd.

What made it more amazing is that currently he is No. 3 in the pecking order of the 110m national hurdlers behind Mohd Faiz, and The deposed 2005 SEA Games' Champion, and national Numero Uno, who could not make it to the team due to injury, Robani Hassan. In his absence, it was other duo's responsibilities to keep the gold medal in Malaysia, and it was Rayzam who duly delivered. Congratulations Rayzam! OK BAH KALAU KAU!!!
